Maveric Romanuik is a Vancouver-born, Toronto-based lens-based artist currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography at OCAD University. Her practice explores identity, family, place and the relationship between personal experience and the natural world. Working through photography, self-portraiture, film, archival imagery, layering and installation, she is interested in how images can reflect connection, belonging, transformation and the ways people are shaped by the environments they move through.
Nature and place are central to Maveric’s work and life, often acting as sources of inspiration, solace, reflection and grounding. Her practice considers how landscapes, water, domestic spaces and familiar environments can hold personal and collective meaning. Through close attention to natural details, family histories, and the emotional atmosphere of place, she creates work that explores how identity is formed through relationships with land, home, community and the people closest to us.
Maveric’s work is also shaped by the importance of international collaboration and cross-cultural understanding. She has participated in International Collaborative Arts programming, including an exhibition with the International Arts Collaborations Network in Tampere, Finland, and will take part in another International Collaboration in Manila, Philippines, May to June 2027. Working with artists and communities from across the globe has expanded her understanding of art as a shared language, allowing her practice to grow through exchange, dialogue and diverse perspectives. She is currently developing her thesis project and is working toward exhibiting her work at GradEx 112 in early May 2027.
With gratitude,
